STRAWBERRY
Strawberries, due to the taste and nutritional value of the fruit, are among the most valuable plants grown here. They contain easily soluble sugars, acids and mineral salts, which include: potassium, iron, phosphorus and calcium, as well as vitamins. Strawberry fruits are especially recommended for children, because they provide vitamins (in terms of vitamin C content, they are second only to black currant) and easily digestible minerals needed to build a young organism.
Strawberry is a hybrid – comes from the wild strawberry. Large-fruited strawberries, grown in our gardens, come from the species of the American wild strawberry, which, thanks to breeding procedures, was transformed into a plant that gives big, tasty fruit. The resulting hybrids were named in Latin Fragaria ananassa or Fragaria grandiflora, that is, large-fruited strawberry. As a result of further breeding work (intersections) new ones are constantly being created, valuable varieties of strawberries, which inherit good taste from their "progenitors", resistance to frost and bisexual flowers (after wild strawberry) and large fruits and red color (after the Chilean wild strawberry).
In the selection of varieties recommended for cultivation in allotment and home gardens there is 5 odmiari.
Precosa Senga – German variety, moderately fertile, valued for early fruit ripening. This is the earliest variety in selection. Plants have a loose habit, spreading, they are resistant to frost, but sensitive to spring frosts and diseases. Medium-sized leaf blades, no shine, elongated, with shallow toothed edges. The fruits from the first harvest are medium-sized, the next change, spherical, very slightly narrowed at the calyx. Light red fruit color. Pink flesh, quite compact, aromatic, tasty. Small air chamber. Chalice with plots not adjacent to the fruit, separating from it very easily. The fruit begins to ripen in the first days of June, and the maturation period is approx 20 days. Its disadvantage is insufficient fertility and small fruit that can only be eaten fresh, advantage – early season of puberty.
Pineapple from Grójec – popular variety, originally from France. Moderately strong to strong growth, depending on the soil. Extensive habit of the plant. Mustache numerous. Quite large or medium-sized leaf blades, elongated, olive green, with deeply serrated edges. The first medium-sized fruit, irregular, often conical, next small, spherical. The color of the fruit is intensely red, paler at the tip in the first fruits. Pink flesh, juicy, loose, slightly acidic, not tasty. Large air chamber. Chalice with narrow plots, long, adhering to the fruit, it is quite difficult to separate from the earliest ripening fruit, while from later maturing – easily. The fruit begins to ripen in early June and the harvest period takes about a month. It is a dessert variety, valued for high fertility and early ripening time. The disadvantage is the considerable sensitivity of plants to white spot. Requires watering during drought, because, when there is a lack of moisture, the fruit becomes smaller.
