Spruce
Spruce (Picea) it is a tree with a conical crown and whorl-shaped branches. Mostly square needles, only in some species it is flattened, similar to firs. Cones hanging downwards and not disintegrating.
You can plant them in small gardens: Norway spruce (Picea abies) – dwarf varieties, which are less demanding on the soil. Maxwellii is a shrub form, spherical-flattened. Short twigs, thick, stiff, yellowish brown. Short needles, positioned around the shoot, protruding. Nidiforis – also dwarf, it grows up to the height 1 m. Spherical-flattened shape with a characteristic, socket recess. Very numerous twigs, arranged in a fan shape, radiating, around the depression, they form a very dense and shapely shrub. Needles approx. 1 cm, flat and sideways, fine serration at the edges. Pro-cumbens – dwarf, procumbent, in diameter 1-1,5 m. Thin twigs, overlapping, light yellow. Needles in length 8-12 mm.
White spruce (Picea glauca – alba), his variety Conica is dwarf, grows up to 3 m in height. It grows slowly. Its needles are thin, positioned radially around the shoot, green, with a light, blue bloom. Slightly sensitive to frost and strong winds.
