DISCOUNTS
Almost every year, when we consider, what to sow and plant in the allotment or home garden, the problem of its beautification is revived. Ornamental plants grown as a cut flower, however they look very beautiful, they cannot be the only decoration of the garden. The simplest form of displaying ornamental plants is a flowerbed. The discounts can be planted with annuals, biennials and perennials – herbs. You can also combine plants from individual groups, creating mixed rebates. The showpiece of the allotment garden plotter is the discount along the main garden road, and the user of the backyard garden – discounts along the alley leading to the apartment or separating the garden from the pavement. This discount is usually quite narrow – a strip of land approx 50 cm between the fence and the road curb in the employee's allotment garden or at the fence of a property in cities. Seating this seat, different rules apply, than planting inside your garden. The external discount is only a small section adjacent to our garden, in allotment gardens only part of a very long discount, running through the entire garden.
Due to the limited space of the garden, it is very important to choose a place for a discount. It should be a fertile position, well-drained soil and well insolated. Most often, discounts are designed along the inner side of the fence at the front of the plot in the allotment garden or under the windows by the wall in the backyard garden. Then along the main alley leading to the entrance to the apartment or gazebo. The location of the bed to some extent determines the selection of plant species. Usually, the lowest plants are planted in the foreground of the beds, then medium high and finally high. In principle, large clusters of very tall plants should not be planted in the beds, because they not only shade the beds behind them, but may look ugly on a small discount. However, you can integrate 2-3 plants, such as: mallow, delphiniums or foxgloves, which will diversify the discount. Before setting up a discount, you need to design it on paper, although it is difficult to adopt ready-made solutions. The booklet of Mirosława Rudnicka-Mynett can be of help here. The main rules, which should be followed when establishing flower beds in the garden, are: simplicity, harmony and aesthetic appearance. Overly complicated forms should be avoided, which, after their implementation in the garden, will not always give the desired effect. In addition, it is good to get acquainted with the characteristics of the selected plant species, so take into account the height of the plants, their habit, the color of flowers, flowering time and plant appearance after flowering. A discount requires careful care throughout the growing season – frequent and thorough weeding, loosening the soil surface between plants (especially after heavy rainfall), regular watering, as well as post-main fertilization with compound fertilizers. You should also remove wilted and rotten inflorescences and flowers. In this way, it is not allowed to set seeds, thanks to which the flowering period of many plants is significantly extended.
