KOSACIEC – IRYS
Iris, called an iris (Iris), is a very popular perennial, having a dozen or so species grown in our gardens. The advantage of rhizome iris is the decorativeness of saber leaves, which lasts all season, if they are well grown, and ease of cultivation, quite high speed of reproduction by division. The flowering period is from April to the end of June, and the flowers of irises are characterized by an unusually large range of colors. Most varieties have two-color flowers.
The division of rhizomes is made in August or spring or autumn. In the process of transplanting the middle ones, the semi-dead parts of the rhizomes must be removed, blowing up healthy parts. You can cut the rhizomes, leaving even 1-2 mesh, it is recommended to protect the cutting plane with a layer of powdered charcoal. Kosaćce thrives in any garden soil, not too dry and not too damp (on which only Siberian and yellow ones should be planted), they bloom beautifully in the sun, but shorter. They are planted in discounts, lower varieties for borders.
The most popular are bearded irises (Iris barbata) with upper flower petals forming a dome and lower petals bent down and provided with a strand of yellow at the base, orange or white hair – the so-called. goatee. It blooms in June. The most famous varieties: Depute Nomblot – will meet, show. 120 cm, flowers great, cuproolil and Rheintraube – very late, show. 90 cm, lavender-blue flowers.
Kosaciec Kaempfera (Japanese) has large flowers, with widely spread petals. Plants grow up to 30-60 cm, they bloom with different colors in June – July.
A dwarf iris is suitable for the fringes (Iris pumila hybrida) about height 8-15 cm. It blooms early, in different colors: white, yellow, bluetoll, dark purple.
Siberian iris (Iris sibirica) it grows up to the height 60-120 cm, flowers are small, White, blue, Violet, leaves’ narrow, just like the eastern iris (Iris orientalis). The latter has outer perianth petals devoid of brushed hair and larger flowers.
