Hazelnut diseases and pests

Hazelnut diseases and pests.

Hazel is attacked by powdery mildew and moniliosis.

The powdery mildew of hazel affects mainly young leaves. White appears on their lower side, mealy coating, and with high severity of the disease, leaves fall prematurely. Spring, after noticing the symptoms of this disease, the plant is sprayed with -Karathane FN-57 at a concentration 0,15%. Perform if necessary 2-3 spraying at 2-week intervals.

Monillion hazel initially manifests itself in the formation of dark brown, recessed spots on the buds, later, stains also appear on the nut buds. As a result of this disease, massive rotting and dropping of the infructescence occurs. When the nut tip appears between the fruit cover leaves, usually at the end of June, the bush is sprayed with preparations: Sadoplon 75 or Dithane M-45 at a concentration 0,3%. Spraying is repeated if necessary 3-4 times in increments 10-14 days.

Hazel is also attacked by numerous pests, e.g.. spider mites, aphids, which are fought like on other fruit trees. The sunflower is a pests that cause severe losses, eating completely the kernel and piercing the shell. It is a beetle, whose light cream larva with a brown head hibernates in the soil at a depth of approx 25 cm. Beetles appear at the end of May and feed on hazel leaves for some time. Then the females bite deep pits in the still soft nuts and lay one egg in them. Hatching larvae eat up the sperm completely. The beetles are fought during the feeding period, usually in late May or early June, spraying hazel with Metox, col. 30 in concentration 0,6%, Insectophos of Col.. 50 (0,15%), The sadophos of Col.. in concentration 0,3%. If necessary, repeat the treatment after 7-10 days.
